The Fix For Overwhelm

I recently bought a house and moved while simultaneously selling my previous home. I’ve had my coaching business to run and two young adults still requiring parenting attention. I had tons of to-do’s on my list.

Did I feel overwhelmed? Not really.

Did you know it’s a choice to feel overwhelmed?

“Overwhelm” is just a feeling—a very intense one—created by our thoughts.

It’s an emotion that keeps us stuck. We become captive to it which then fosters feeling powerless.

All that’s happening is that our brain has become flooded with thoughts like:

  • There’s too much to get done
  • I have to get this done or else…
  • I can’t do this, it’s too much…
  • I can’t handle this…
  • I don’t even know where to begin…
  • Everything is falling apart…

When you’re trapped in overwhelm, the very first thing is to STOP. Take time to sit and breathe and FEEL the frantic energy in your body.

Tell yourself:

As you observe the feeling, notice if it shifts as you direct your mind to THESE thoughts.

Staying in the present day and training your mind to STOP negatively projecting into the future, will keep you grounded.
